Crosswalk Dedication – Seven Grandfather Teachings
The Downtown Kemptville community is invited to come together in a meaningful moment of reflection and connection.
On Wednesday, September 24th at 6:00 p.m., a special dedication ceremony will be held at Rotary Park, beside the newly reinstalled crosswalk at Clothier and Prescott Streets.
This beautiful crosswalk, featuring seven feathers, represents the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Humility, Truth, and Wisdom. These sacred teachings are shared by many Indigenous communities and serve as a powerful reminder of how we can walk together in mutual respect and understanding.
Originally envisioned by North Grenville resident Carolyn Solomon in 2024, this crosswalk now returns with renewed purpose and intention — just in time for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The evening will include a smudging ceremony led by Elder Albert Dumont, along with reflections from local dignitaries, to honour the cultural significance of the teachings and share them with the wider community.
This is a chance to pause, reflect, and honour the path forward — together. We hope to see you there.
