Overview: The Medicine Bag Workshop by Makatew Workshops offers a unique, hands-on experience designed to foster cultural awareness and understanding. This immersive session is deeply rooted in Indigenous teachings and traditions, providing participants with an opportunity to create their own personal medicine bag while learning about its cultural and spiritual significance.
Workshop Highlights:
1. Medicine Wheel Teachings: Participants will explore the four directions and elements of the Medicine Wheel, gaining insights into Indigenous perspectives on balance, wellness, and interconnectedness.
2. Cultural Appropriation vs. Appreciation: A critical discussion to help participants understand the difference between respectfully engaging with Indigenous cultures and appropriating them.
3. Terminology: Learn appropriate and respectful language when discussing Indigenous topics, fostering better communication and understanding.
4. Residential Schools and the 94 Calls to Action: Explore the legacy of residential schools in Canada and understand the importance of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
5. Crafting the Medicine Bag: Guided by an Indigenous facilitator, participants will create their own medicine bag using traditional materials, learning the spiritual and cultural significance of each element.
